Appeal to the City of Sturgis

On November 6th, I plan on going before the City of Sturgis and making an appeal that the City begins caring about our local history. Sturgis has a lot of great history, but the issue is that there hasn’t been a great push to preserve this history.

When we look at surrounding towns, they have implemented historical commissions, or preservation offices. Sturgis, on the other hand, has done nothing. The very little history they have focused on is with the Rally, and even there, they get it embarrassingly wrong. But it’s not just embarrassing, it borders offensive. They make the claim that the Rally was cancelled from 1939-1941, and restarted in 1942, because of WWII. And in making such a statement, they forget about the Day that will live in infamy; December 7th, 1941, the day Pearl Harbor was attacked. The very little history they have provided gets it so very wrong.

This is why I’m going before the City Council. Because our history needs to be known, it needs some focus. And I won’t be asking for a lot. While sponsorships are nice, and I will be seeking those to continue this project, supporting local history can be as easy as simply promoting those who do local history. Hitting that share button on social media, or a like button. All of this helps bring this amazing history of ours back to life.

And for those who do want to help this project continue moving forward, we do have options there as well. The file below is what I sent to City Council, and it does talk about sponsorships, as well as what we are doing. But you can also sign up for our Patreon membership. Or again, share and like our posts. It all helps.
